Arsenal are among a number of Premier League clubs interested in Mathys Tel.
The Bayern Munich star became available for a transfer a few days ago, and that alerted a number of sides in the English top-flight.
TBR Football revealed that Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Manchester United and Aston Villa have all been keen to sign Tel, but no move has materialised yet.
Now, on deadline day, Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth has shared an update.
Arsenal unlikely to follow up on Mathys Tel interest
Arsenal, in some ways, were the last club standing in the race to sign Tel.
The Bayern Munich star has dominated the news over the last few days, but one club after another appeared to drop out of the chase.
Tel rejected a move to Tottenham even though the North Londoners had agreed a fee with Bayern to sign him on a permanent deal.
Manchester United were attractive to Tel, but they couldn’t strike a deal with Bayern.
Many felt Arsenal could take advantage of that and lure the Frenchman to the Emirates, but it looks like the Gunners have decided against it.
Sheth said live on Sky Sports: “Arsenal are unlikely to follow up their interest in Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel as things stand.
“They explored the conditions of a deal in this transfer window. Sky in Germany report that Bayern are insisting on a loan with an obligation or a permanent deal.
“Arsenal will work until the final seconds to try and improve the squad on Deadline Day.”
The latest on Arsenal’s pursuit of Ollie Watkins
Arsenal have had several names on their list of targets, and Tel was one of them.
The Frenchman made a lot of sense for the Gunners because he would offer options in all three attacking positions for Mikel Arteta. But, it is unlikely that he will be signed now.
Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins is another player Arsenal have considered. The Gunners even tabled a bid to sign him last week but that was rejected.
However, reports have now claimed that a £60 million offer from Arsenal for Watkins could get a deal done on deadline day.
But, Watkins suffered an injury on Saturday, and it remains to be seen if that becomes a factor in Arsenal’s thinking in the coming hours.
