As we all know, anything can happen on transfer deadline day.
Indeed, we’ve seen some incredible stories emerge late in transfer windows over the years.
Even today, Mathys Tel is set to join Tottenham after initially rejecting a move to Spurs over the weekend, while there are usually a lot of late twists and turns on deadline day.
Arsenal are still in the market for a new striker, and Arsenal bid for Ollie Watkins over the weekend.
However, it sounds as though the Watkins trail has gone cold, and according to John Townley, speaking on the Claret and Blue Podcast, the Aston Villa star won’t be going anywhere on deadline day.
Ollie Watkins won’t be joining Arsenal
Townley shared what he knows about Watkins amid murmurs that he could still be on the move.
The journalist says that Watkins won’t be headed anywhere on deadline day, despite the fact Arsenal bid for the £60m man.
“We’re doing our best. Sky Sports were apparently talking about Watkins to Arsenal still. Are you concerned about that at all with the hours ticking by?” The host asked.
“Yeah, I’m panicking, mate. I’ve heard it’s on. No, I’m joking. Watkins will be going nowhere,” Townley said.
“No, but that is like, I’ve seen a lot of different blogs and stuff from the other media outlets and Watkins is like the main photo and stuff, but that is, you know, in the at least national media. They’re trying to appeal to the Arsenal fans online.”
Who else could Arsenal sign?
Watkins won’t be headed to Arsenal, and the Gunners are running out of options now.
Indeed, all of Arsenal’s potential signings are seemingly dead ends right now.
Mathys Tel was an Arsenal target late in the day, but he’s headed to Tottenham instead, while Arsenal made an approach for Evan Ferguson last week, but he’s now gone to West Ham.
The striker market really is drying up towards the end of the transfer window, and Arsenal may not be out of ideas late in the day.
Luckily, Arsenal are still in a good position in the Premier League and after knocking five goals past Manchester City on Sunday, it’s fair to say that the north London club’s attack is good enough to win the Premier League – so long as everyone stays fit.
