Mathys Tel has revealed what Harry Kane told him about signing for Tottenham Hotspur which eventually convinced him to make the switch.
Tel’s move to Tottenham was perhaps the biggest transfer saga on deadline day as the forward completed a remarkable U-turn over his stance on Spurs.
Tel rejected the move to Spurs on Friday and he looked set to either remain at Bayern Munich or join either Manchester United or Arsenal.
But in a dramatic turn of events, the 19-year-old changed his mind and decided to sign for the North London club on deadline day.
What Harry Kane told Mathys Tel about Tottenham
Mathys Tel claims that Harry Kane spoke very highly about the club telling him how impressive the stadium and training facilities are at Tottenham.
Ange Postecoglou also played a role in convincing Tel to join having held extensive talks with the forward on the final day of the window.
Tottenham tried to sign Tel before selling Harry Kane to Bayern, however, the Bavarians were against letting him leave at that moment in time.
Now, they finally have their man and their new forward has been speaking about Kane’s message to him ahead of making the switch.
Tel told SpursOfficial: “He told me that this is a big club with a lot of very good people, the stadium is very nice, the training centre is very good and if you go there you will enjoy it. Everything was positive from Harry Kane.”
What position will Mathys Tel play at Tottenham?
Tel is hoping to play as a striker at Tottenham, according to Sky Germany, with most of his chances at Bayern Munich coming as a left-winger.
Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg revealed: “Now it’s up to Postecoglou to place him in the right position. He is not a winger, he is a striker, let him strike, let him score goals.”
Playing as a number nine for Tottenham will be important as Dominic Solanke is sidelined with a knee injury for several weeks.
