West Ham are looking to sign a new striker before the close of play in the transfer window on Monday.

The Hammers have a few irons in the fire right now, and they could push the button on a number of potential deals.

Brian Brobbey has been in London recently to negotiate a move to West Ham, Evan Ferguson is a West Ham target, while Artur Cabral is close to joining West Ham according to some reports.

Andre Silva has also been linked to West Ham, and, by the sounds of things, this deal isn’t dead yet.

Indeed, according to Duncan Castles, speaking on The Transfers Podcast, West Ham remain in discussions with Silva and they’re waiting to get approval from Graham Potter to go through with the deal.

West Ham awaiting approval on Andre Silva deal

Castles shared what he knows about West Ham and their interest in Silva.

The journalist says that West Ham are in discussions about signing the £19m man on a loan with an option to buy and they will go through with a deal if Graham Potter approves the move.

However, according to Castles, Potter would prefer a move for Evan Ferguson.

“So just before we move on to a couple of deals that we haven’t mentioned so far, potential deals, one of those is at West Ham United, one of the clubs that desperately need a striker. They have been in discussions for Andre Silva, the Portugal international striker, quite a prolific scorer for Portugal, 19 and 59 games, at Leipzig, which will probably be a loan deal with an option to buy. They’re waiting on approval of Graham Potter to go through with that deal.

And obviously, Evan Ferguson’s situation is relevant here in that Potter’s preference would be for Ferguson rather than André Silva. But pay attention to that one as a possibility. Also the PSV American striker Ricardo Pepe, who has had a strong season with 10 goals in 17 games for Eindhoven, also one that West Ham United are looking at.”

Silva compared to Evan Ferguson

Potter would prefer to sign Evan Ferguson ahead of Andre Silva, and it’s not hard to understand why.

Indeed, while both players’ records this season are comparable, there’s so many more pros to signing Ferguson ahead of Silva.

Yes, both men aren’t scoring for fun this term, but Ferguson does have a lot more upside than Silva.

At the age of just 20, Ferguson has a lot more room to grow and improve than the 29-year-old Andre Silva.

On top of that, Ferguson has Premier League experience under his belt, and while he hasn’t been doing a good job of it recently, he does know how to score in this league.

Add in that Graham Potter knows Ferguson well from his time at Brighton, and it’s easy to see why the gaffer may prefer this deal.

It remains to be seen which striker West Ham ultimately opt for before deadline day.
