Chelsea plan to loan Mathis Amougou to Strasbourg
TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that Chelsea have struck a deal with Saint-Etienne for Mathis Amougou.
The highly-rated 19-year-old has been on the radar of a host of other Premier League clubs.
Man City, Aston Villa, Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion have also been eyeing him.
However, Chelsea have triumphed in the race for Amougou, having struck a deal for the teenager worth £10million.
Sources have also confirmed to TBR Football that Amougou would likely be sent to sister club Strasbourg until the summer.
However, he could get a chance at Stamford Bridge as Enzo Maresca wants another midfielder to come in.
In addition, TBR Football can confirm that talks between Chelsea and Sporting CP’s Dario Essugo have taken place.
What Chelsea could expect from Amougou
Amougou is a central midfielder by trade but he’s versatile enough to be able to operate at No. 6 and also at No. 10.
However, he really thrives at No. 8, as he loves to be involved at both ends of the pitch, and he’s a real threat outside the box.
Amougou is great at going forward, with dribbling one of his main strengths, and he’s great in getting away from his markets.
Analyst Ben Mattison has written on X: “In the early phases of play he does lots of smart intricate turns that are very Youssouf Fofana/Romeo Lavia-esque.
“He’ll turn away from markers with ice cold composure, unfazed by pressure.”
Amougou is also very good at intercepting the ball and weighing in with tackles.
