Chelsea will have been keeping a close eye on Andrey Santos who is currently on loan at Strasbourg and the West London club have issued their verdict on him.

Despite a tough debut campaign in the Premier League, Chelsea opted not to sell Santos last summer and instead loaned him out again to Strasbourg.

The 20-year-old played just seven minutes for Nottingham Forest last season before his loan was cut short in January and he was sent on loan to France.

But that decision not to offload him for a fee looks to be paying dividends as the youngster is now impressing out in Ligue 1.

Chelsea ‘delighted’ with Andrey Santos’ progress

Chelsea are ‘delighted’ with how Andrey Santos’ loan spell at Strasbourg is going with the midfielder producing solid numbers in France, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues consider him to be a ‘key part’ of their future and appear pleased with their decision to reject bids for him last summer.

Chelsea signed Santos for just over £11 million from Vasco da Gama as they beat off competition from clubs like Man City, Liverpool and Newcastle to get him.

Romano claims that offers were refused for the youngster in the summer and Enzo Maresca’s side decided to put him back out on loan.

Santos is now enjoying a wicked spell in the French top flight and showing signs that he could eventually make the grade at Stamford Bridge.

What is Andrey Santos’ record for Strasbourg this season?

Santos took his goal tally to eight for the season as he netted in Strasbourg’s 2-1 win over Lille on Saturday.

Seven of his goals have come in Ligue 1 which is an impressive return for a player who has been playing as a central midfielder and even as a number six.

Santos has now started in every game this season, except the opening fixture, for Strasbourg in the league and has been key in their strong run of form.

They are currently six games unbeaten and have moved up into ninth place in the table.
