TBR Football understands that Tottenham are already celebrating behind the scenes in regards to the signing of French striker Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich.
Tel is set to join Tottenham on loan for the remainder of the season, becoming Spurs’ fourth signing of the window.
Ange Postecoglou has been short of options recently, and both Kevin Danso and Tel will be welcome boosts ahead of two tricky cup fixtures to come this week once the dust settles from deadline day.
Tottenham paid Bayern £6.5m to sign Tel on loan, and the 19-year-old is said to be open about his future – he’s happy to see how things go on his loan in regards to any decision afterwards.
Spurs’ rivals Arsenal vetoed a move for Tel because they weren’t happy with the terms of his loan, a structure that didn’t bother Tottenham.
Tottenham staff already hailing Mathys Tel as a ‘generational talent’
In fact, Graeme Bailey – chief transfer correspondent at TBR Football, can reveal that Tottenham staff are already ‘over the moon’ behind the scenes in N17.
Spurs believe that their hard work in the last 24 hours has seen them achieve one of the best deals of the January window.
Furthermore, the Lilywhites believe that the loan move to bring Tel to the club is as good as any deal done in Europe during this window.
Tottenham insist that they never gave up and that the striker’s camp always gave them some confidence that a deal could be achieved.
All in all, Spurs believe that Tel is a ‘generational talent’, a player who could thrive under Postecoglou.
Mathys Tel’s current shirt number is vacant at Spurs
Incidentally, Tel’s #39 shirt that he currently wears in the Bundesliga is available at Spurs, suggesting another seamless switch.
Previously, the number has been worn by talents such as Jonathan Woodgate and Japhet Tanganga, but it will now take on a move attacking role in north London.
Harry Kane has already praised Tel’s attitude in training at Bayern, further cementing the idea that Tottenham have made an excellent signing.
Of course, Tel might already make a difference for Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi-final second-leg against Liverpool, a game he should be available for as things stand.
And incidentally, Tottenham are close to signing a Liverpool youngster on deadline day according to reports, another promising move by the club.
