Kevin Danso could well end up being a gem of a signing for Tottenham in the January transfer window.
Mathys Tel made a lot of headlines on deadline day after he arrived at Tottenham late in the transfer window.
Indeed, Tel made a dramatic U-turn late in the day and now he’s a Spurs player.
However, Tel wasn’t the only late addition at Spurs in January as Kevin Danso also arrived from RC Lens.
Tottenham fans would be forgiven for not being too excited about Danso’s arrival. After all, he’s best known in England for struggling at Southampton.
However, Ange Postecoglou is excited about Danso’s arrival and according to Jack Pitt-Brooke, speaking on The View from The Lane, people within football think this could be a good fit as well.
What’s being said about Kevin Danso
Pitt-Brooke spoke about Danso’s arrival at Spurs and some reports he’s had back about the defender.
Indeed, according to the journalist, the feeling around Danso is that his physical profile makes him perfect to play in Ange Postecoglou’s high line.
“You know, a few people have said to me that like Danso’s physical profile makes him perfect to play in Tottenham’s high line. I just think, I think in the case of the Danso signing, unlike, for example, Kinsky or even Tel, like it’s kind of about somebody who can plug straight in, really,” Pitt-Brooke said.
“Like Spurs just needed somebody who’s experienced, you know, fit, able, dependable and ready to go. You know, it might well be depending on the other injuries that Danso plays a lot in the second half of this season. But I think clearly it’s just, you know, they need someone who can hit the ground running.”
How fast is Kevin Danso?
Pitt-Brooke says he’s been told that Danso’s physical profile makes him a good fit for Ange Postecoglou’s high line.
Of course, playing a high line means that you need defenders who have a lot of pace.
Luckily, Danso certainly has that.
Indeed, according to the stats provided by UEFA from Euro 2024, Danso is no slouch.
The Austrian is actually just as quick as, and quicker, than some big-name players who are renowned for their speed.
Kevin Danso speed compared to Euro 2024 stars | Top speed (km/h) |
Kevin Danso | 33.3 |
Lamine Yamal | 33.3 |
Marc Cucurella | 33.2 |
William Saliba | 32.8 |
Cristiano Ronaldo | 32.7 |
Micky van de Ven has praised William Saliba for his pace, but, according to the stats, Danso is even quicker than the Frenchman.
Spurs may well have found a very good centre-back option here as they look to come through their current defensive injury crisis.
