‘World-class’ player who Liverpool were in direct contact with to sign could now join Real Madrid

With Liverpool flying in all four competitions, on the surface, it would seem like they do not need to make any new signings.

However, Arne Slot will perhaps need no reminding that regardless of how much success the Reds accrue by the end of the season, standing still in the summer transfer window could majorly halt their progress.

After winning their first Premier League title in 2020, Liverpool made just three summer signings and had they been more ambitious in the transfer window, they could have finished higher than second place.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were hit by a whole host of injuries in that season but even so, their transfer activity in the summer was not significant enough to challenge Manchester City — having signed just two top players ready to start in Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota as well as a backup left-back in Kostas Tsimikas.

A player who Slot’s side seem keen on signing is Joshua Kimmich and it would be a shock to say the least if they went another summer without making a single signing; a move that is yet to be punished due to the Dutch tactician’s brilliance.

Liverpool target Joshua Kimmich likelier to sign for Real Madrid

The report claimed that if Trent Alexander-Arnold decided to leave Anfield in a favour of a move to Real Madrid this month, the Premier League leaders would make a move to sign the Bayern Munich technician as his replacement.

It was even claimed that Liverpool were willing to stump up a £21 million fee to sign the treble-winner this January, with Kimmich available on a free transfer this summer,

However, journalist Christian Falk has revealed that Kimmich is “more likely” to sign for Real Madrid than Liverpool now if he refuses to sign a contract renewal at the Allianz Arena.

Los Blancos’ chief scout Juni Calafat enquired about signing Kimmich, who Pep Guardiola wants at Manchester City as well.

Christian Falk further disclosed that the 29-year-old and Real Madrid “want to stay in touch.”

Julian Nagelsmann referred to his countryman as “world-class” via the Bundesliga’s official website, who is a proven winner and has been amongst the very best players in the world for a number of years now.

In August, Kimmich’s stance was to stay at Bayern as contract talks between him and the German giants first took place.

But months have gone by and only the versatile defender knows where his future lies.

How Arne Slot privately feels about Joshua Kimmich

Arne Slot is a fan of Kimmich, as it was first reported in September.

The report stated that Liverpool were privately discussing the eight-time Bundesliga winner as a potential signing.

At the time, a move for Kimmich was viewed as a measure to bolster the side’s midfield department.

Furthermore, the former RB Leipzig star was considered an affordable and high-quality option in the transfer market.

Despite all the noise surrounding Kimmich’s future, he has firmly been in Vincent Kompany’s plans, starting every game for Bayern this campaign.

Kompany has largely deployed the seasoned campaigner in midfield this season.

From Liverpool’s perspective, Kimmich’s potential addition would be one that would bring experience, versatility, quality, leadership and pedigree to their squad.

However, when Real Madrid come calling, it is difficult for most, if any club in the European game to compete with them in a transfer battle.
